January is Reading Month at Woodstock Elementary School!!  Our Reading theme is "Be A Reading Superhero! Read Everyday!
We will be celebrating reading month with the following activities:

  • Each class will set a reading goal, and students will receive a large super hero sticker for reaching their goal.
  • Participating in the Norfolk Rip Tide's (Reading is Power) program.  Students who reach their goal will receive free tickets to an upcoming Tides and Admirals games.
  • Guest Readers will be scheduled to read to classes during the month.
  • Some students will participate in book talks, and these book talks will be pre-recorded and played on the morning announcements.

We hope that you will encourage your child to participate in Woodstock's Reading Month activities.  Together, we can continue to foster a lifelong love of reading for our children!

If there are changes in your child's afternoon transportation, please send a note to the teacher or contact the main office.

Text Box: THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE AT WOODSTOCK ELEMENTARYclip

The following activities will be conducted during the month of January, 2015:
All JANUARY GUIDANCE LESSONS will focus on two themes (mandated): Bullying and Kindness.  Our intention is to educate about bullying and promote kindness as a means to address the issue.
We have registered Woodstock through two organizations:

  • http://www.bekinddokind.com sponsored by Kohl’s and CHKD. You will see a banner above the GYM and we have posters, stickers, books, and window clings that will be disbursed.  Kindness projects are posted on this site. Woodstock is already on for collecting food and canned goods in November and December.  And, I believe Mrs. Wyman’s classes will soon be up for their project helping the homeless shelter.  Your class, too, could be featured on this site…check it out!
  • http://www.greatkindnesschallenge.org/   We will be accomplishing the challenge in a couple of different ways.
  • Kindergarten – Mrs. Beda is working with teachers to decide what the children will do.
  • First Grade has large calendars and will be choosing one challenge per school day to complete as a class.
  • Second through Fifth grades will be given the official list of fifty challenges to complete between January 20 and January 30th.
  • The SCA and Mrs. Holloran are turning the Christmas tree into a KINDNESS TREE.  Children doing acts of kindness will be given a “star” to hang on the tree.  More specific info to follow.
  • KELSO KINDNESS…please recognize special acts of kindness done by your class or individuals on Kelso coupons to be read on morning announcements.  See Pulley for more coupons if you need them.
  • SPIRIT DAYS>
  • January 22nd: CRAZY FOR KINDNESS – Wear crazy hair or crazy hats
  • January 23rd: WOODSTOCK KIDS ARE KIND KIDS – Wear clothes that represent kindness to others, animals, or environment OR wear Woodstock school colors.
  • RECOGNITION DAYS will be the last week of January.  Any children who participated in the challenge will put their handprint on a big poster to be displayed for the school.  Miss Pulley will coordinate this activity.  Details will follow.
